Bennington’s boys golf teams turned in an outstanding performance Tuesday at River Wilds Golf Club in Blair. The varsity squad shattered the school’s 18-hole record with a team total of 293, while the junior varsity also posted a strong 305. The quad also included competitors from DC West, Mt. Michael, and Gretna East.

Varsity head coach Craig Nichols praised the team’s depth and execution across the lineup. “We shot our school record with a 293 and we had 8 golfers shoot in the 70s which is an awesome performance from varsity to JV,” Nichols said.

Individual varsity scores featured several strong rounds: Kale Lamberty led the way with a 70, followed by Austin Jochum (72), Caleb Clark (75), Brady Nichols (76), and Reid Thornburg (77). On the JV side, Brenden Anderson carded a 72 and Jax Gifford a 73, with Parker Buscher (79), Parker Reimers (81), and Drew Schwery (91) rounding out the group.

For the team and coaching staff, the record-breaking day carried special meaning. Nichols highlighted the effort behind the achievement.

“Breaking the 18-hole school record is really a great accomplishment for our team,” he said. “It speaks to the hard work these guys have been putting in and not just during tournaments, but in practice, in the offseason, and in the little things they do to improve every day. It’s rewarding to see that commitment pay off and a reflection of how well they support each other and compete as a group.”

Nichols noted that the performance should serve the team well moving forward. “This definitely helps build confidence and momentum,” he explained. “When you see scores like that across the lineup, it reinforces that we have the depth and ability to compete. At the same time we know the season is just getting going so continue to put in the time and develop to prepare for the opportunities ahead.”

Their next invitational will be on Tuesday, April 21, also in Blair at River Wilds, featuring more than 100 golfers and 23 teams. The upcoming event will use a shotgun start at 9 a.m. for 18 holes, creating a competitive atmosphere that Bennington is looking forward to competing in.

With the early-season success, the Bennington boys will look to carry their momentum through the remainder of the schedule as they continue developing and chasing additional team goals.
