Life 100.7 brought its annual Summer Tour to Bennington last week, giving community members an opportunity to connect with the station’s team while helping support families facing food insecurity.
The Christian radio station stopped at Cup & Cone on Tuesday, July 21, as part of its summer-long tour across the Omaha area. Along with meeting listeners in the communities they serve, the station is collecting boxes of cereal throughout the tour to benefit the Open Door Mission.
Life 100.7 Station Manager Jeremy Tracey said the cereal drive is an opportunity to address a growing need, especially during the summer months when children are out of school and families may have additional challenges providing meals.
“As you know, there are people in our community that deal with food insecurity, especially during the summer months,” Tracey said. “It’s a real issue- kids out of school and families have to provide a bit more.”
This year’s goal is to collect 3,500 boxes of cereal. Following the Bennington stop, the station had already collected more than 2,700 boxes with several weeks remaining in the drive.
The effort has already mirrored last year’s results, with sights set on exceeding it. In 2025, Life 100.7 set a goal of collecting 2,025 boxes and ultimately gathered around 3,100 boxes of cereal for the Open Door Mission.
Tracey said the response from the organization has shown just how meaningful the donations are for local families. Last year’s collection was the largest cereal drive the Open Door Mission had received, and the donations helped keep their shelves stocked for months.
“They said it’s the biggest cereal drive they’ve ever had,” Tracey said. “So they’re ecstatic.”
The cereal donations provide a tangible way for listeners to support neighbors in need, while also reflecting the mission behind the station’s community outreach.
“The thing I love is that people that are part of the Life 100.7 community get it,” Tracey said. “To be a follower of Jesus is showing his love in all kinds of different ways. And one of those ways is helping people, meeting physical needs.”
Beyond collecting donations, Tracey said the Summer Tour gives the Life 100.7 team the chance to interact directly with listeners and hear how the station impacts their lives.
The team travels to different locations each Tuesday throughout the summer, with two more stops scheduled in Lincoln and Bellevue before this year’s tour concludes. Community members who are unable to attend a stop but would still like to contribute to the cereal drive can donate directly through Life 100.7.
“It energizes the team,” Tracey said. “Every time they come back, they have tons of stories about the impact Life 100.7 has, how God’s using Life 100.7 in their life, but also just stories of this, you know, people showing up with cereal and just the enthusiasm for the drive.”
With donations continuing to come in, the station hopes to once again exceed its goal and provide even more support for the Open Door Mission and families throughout the community.
