The Bennington boys golf team continues to rewrite its record book, breaking the school record for the second time in just over a week at the Blair Invitational. Competing against a field of 26 teams and 130 golfers, the Badgers’ varsity squad (Bennington Blue) posted a historic team score of 287 to claim first place, while Bennington White secured runner-up honors.

“We broke our team school record today with a score of 287,” said head coach Craig Nichols.

The record-setting performance comes just one week after the team previously set a new school mark of 293 on the same Blair course, highlighting the team’s rapid improvement and depth.

Leading the way in the River Division was Reid Thornburg, who fired an impressive 4-under-par 68 to earn medalist honors. He was joined by a strong showing from teammates Kale Lamberty (72), Austin Jochum (73), Brady Nichols (74), and Caleb Clark (75), rounding out the championship lineup for Bennington Blue.

Bennington White also delivered a standout performance, finishing second overall in the River Division with a team score of 299. Parker Buscher led the group with a 71, followed by Jax Gifford (73), Brenden Anderson (76), McCoy Haywood (79), and Parker Reimers (86).

Between the two varsity squads, Bennington dominated the River Division leaderboard, placing six golfers in the top 10:

  • 1st: Reid Thornburg (68)
  • 4th: Parker Buscher (71)
  • 5th: Kale Lamberty (72)
  • 7th: Austin Jochum (73)
  • 8th: Jax Gifford (73)
  • 9th: Brady Nichols (74)

Bennington Black posted a team score of 354. Players and scores included Luke Skwira (89), Mason Reimers (88), Tucker Ehlers (93), Drew Schewry (92), and Sterling Sharp (85). 

In the Wilds Division, Cruz Nichols and Noah Hall led the way for the Badgers, each earning medalist honors for Bennington with rounds of 83, finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Additional players and scores included Alek Otto (89), Will Robinson (91), and Brennan Laible (100).

Overall, the invitational showcased the depth and competitiveness of the Bennington program, with multiple teams placing near the top and a growing list of individual standouts. The back-to-back record-breaking performances signal strong momentum as the Badgers continue their season.
