The Bennington High School boys golf team captured the district championship Monday at River Wilds Golf Course, earning a trip to the state tournament next week in Scottsbluff after a dominant team performance that saw all five golfers finish in the top 10 and medal individually.
The Badgers not only brought home the district champion plaque, but also set a new school district scoring record in the process.
Head coach Craig Nichols said the accomplishment reflects the dedication the team has shown throughout the season.

“Winning the district championship means a lot to our team and our program because it reflects the hard work, commitment, and dedication these players have put in throughout the season and over the last several years,” Nichols said. “Our guys have set high standards for themselves, and to win a district title while also setting a new school district scoring record is something they should be very proud of.”
Leading the way for Bennington was Kale Lamberty, who finished as district runner-up with a score of 70:

Austin Jochum placed third with a 71:

Caleb Clark earned fifth place with a 73:

Jax Gifford added a sixth-place finish with a 75:

Reid Thornburg rounded out the medalists in seventh place after shooting a 76:

Nichols said having every golfer medal and qualify individually highlights the strength of the team from top to bottom.
“Having all five golfers medal and qualify individually also speaks to the depth of our lineup and the team culture they have built,” Nichols said.
The coach also credited the players for pushing each other throughout the season and creating a supportive team environment.
“This group organically motivates each other and they have earned these opportunities together,” Nichols said. “I hope they enjoy the experience and memories that come with the postseason time together and playing at the state tournament.”
Bennington will now turn its attention to the state tournament in Scottsbluff next week as the Badgers look to continue their successful postseason run.
“The focus is to make sure the guys have what they need and are prepared,” Nichols said. “At this point in the season, it is about trusting the work they have already put in, staying patient, and playing smart golf.”
