The Bennington boys golf team turned in an impressive performance at the Elkhorn Quad on Monday, May 11, earning the varsity team a top score against a competitive field at Indian Creek Golf Course.
Hosted by Elkhorn, the quad featured Bennington, Elkhorn, Gretna East, and Blair. The event began at 12:30 p.m. and consisted of 18 holes, with each school fielding five varsity and five junior varsity golfers.
Bennington coach Craig Nichols said the course and competition provided a valuable test ahead of postseason play.
“Indian Creek is a really nice competitive course so it was nice to see our golfers play well on a solid course with good competition,” Nichols said.
Leading the way for the Badgers was Caleb Clark, who captured first place individually with an even-par 72. Kale Lamberty followed with a 75, while Austin Jochum carded a 76. Parker Buscher added a 77 and Brady Nichols shot a 78. Additional scores for the Badgers included Reid Thornburg with a 79, Jax Gifford with an 81, Brenden Anderson and Parker Reimers each with an 83, and Noah Hall with an 87.
Bennington’s varsity squad finished with a team score of 302. The junior varsity team finished with a score of 321.
The strong outing serves as momentum for Bennington as the team prepares for district competition Monday, May 18, at River Wilds Golf Course in Blair.
According to Nichols, Bennington’s district tee times on Hole 1 will begin at 9:50am. Stay tuned for coverage of the district tournament.
