The Bennington Jaycees are inviting families from across the community to their annual Easter Egg Hunt, a free event filled with fun, excitement, and plenty of candy-filled eggs.
The hunt is scheduled for Friday, April 3, starting at 5 p.m. at Hickey Field, located next to Bennington Elementary.
Sheri Crawford from the Jaycees shared what members look forward to most about the event: “I would say watching the kids run and pick up all the eggs in about 2 minutes!”
The tradition has deep roots in the community. Crawford even recalled participating as a child. This annual event has been an anticipated staple in the community since the 1980s or even earlier. “I have pictures of me doing it when I was 3!” Crawford mentioned.
Hosting the Easter Egg Hunt aligns closely with the Jaycees’ mission of giving back. “This is part of the Jaycees giving back to the community,” Crawford explained. “What we profit at the fireworks stand in the summer is used to fund the Easter egg hunt.” Additionally, the dance team assists by filling the eggs as a team-bonding activity, and the Jaycees in turn support the dancers’ trip to nationals in Florida each year.
The Jaycees prepare thousands of eggs along with other prizes for the children. Crawford noted they fill 3,000 eggs and typically see participation ranging from over 100 kids to close to 200. While exact numbers for this year are yet to be determined, the event has remained a popular draw for families over the years.
The primary goal is to create a welcoming gathering that families can look forward to every year. “The goal is to provide a family friendly event for our community,” Crawford said. “I hope the parents get to see the joy on their children’s faces when they pick up the eggs.”
Families are encouraged to bring baskets or bags and join in the fun at Hickey Field on April 3 starting at 5 p.m. The event is open to the entire community at no cost, thanks to the support of the Bennington Jaycees and their partners.
It’s sure to be a highlight of the spring season, continuing a cherished local tradition that brings smiles to kids and parents alike.
