The Mamma Mia! magic is coming to Bennington High School as the music department prepares to raise the curtain on its spring musical this weekend.
Opening night is set for Friday night at 7 p.m., with additional performances scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Audiences can expect an energetic, feel-good production packed with familiar hits and a heartfelt story brought to life by a large and dedicated group of students.
“Audiences can expect to enjoy a night of high energy and the nostalgic (for some of us) tunes of ABBA,” said director Konni in den Bosch. “With the familiar music of Mamma Mia, they will have a fun night as the students present the story of Sophie, who meets her three potential dads on the eve of her wedding day. Sophie soon learns that who you are doesn’t come from knowing where you came from but knowing what you want.”
The production is no small undertaking. “Our cast and crew of over 150 students has been working long and hard to deliver an entertaining show,” she added.
One unique aspect of this year’s performance is its double-cast format, giving even more students the opportunity to shine on stage.
“Our talent!” in den Bosch said when asked what excites her most about opening night. “This is a double casted show with talent oozing out of every participant. Both casts are excellent performers who love doing what they do and you can really see that on the stage and in their performances.”
She noted that Team Honey will perform Friday and Sunday at 1 p.m., while Team Money takes the stage Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. “No matter what show you attend you will be delighted to witness the talent of these amazing students.”
With upbeat music, a beloved storyline, and months of preparation behind it, this weekend’s performances promise to be a memorable showcase of student talent. Tickets are still available, and community members are encouraged to come out and support the show.
