Bennington Public Schools & Bennington Public Schools Foundation have announced the January recipients of its Shine Your Light Award, honoring two dedicated staff members for their exceptional contributions to students, colleagues, and the school community.
The Shine Your Light Award recognizes employees who go above and beyond in their roles, making a meaningful difference through their work, initiative, or support for others. Nominations come from colleagues, parents, and students, with two to three staff members selected each month.
Erin Eckholt, a sixth-grade teacher at Bennington Middle School, was celebrated for her collaborative and student-centered approach to education. Nominations highlighted her as a thoughtful educator who consistently prioritizes students’ needs. Colleagues praised her as an outstanding teammate and co-teaching partner, noting her flexibility, open-mindedness, and unwavering commitment to supporting every learner. Mrs. Eckholt has also built strong, trusting relationships with students and families through regular communication and genuine care. Over time, she has emerged as a respected teacher leader at the school, proactively engaging in professional learning and generously sharing effective strategies to benefit both students and fellow educators.

Shannon Lehman, the school secretary at Bennington Elementary, was recognized for her warm and indispensable presence in the building. Described as a bright, welcoming force, she consistently goes the extra mile to assist everyone around her. Staff commended her dependability, kindness, and readiness to help wherever needed. Mrs. Lehman infuses the office with joy and positive energy each day, and she has a remarkable ability to connect with students, helping them feel truly seen and valued. Her efforts play a key role in ensuring the school operates smoothly while fostering a warm, happy environment for students and staff alike.

These awards shine a spotlight on the everyday excellence that makes Bennington Public Schools a thriving place for learning and growth.
